Personal Quote: I'm doing this to get back at my future self.
Interests
I spent 2 hours yesterday rationing out toys, money, and candy between large and small plastic eggs. Stuffed about a dozen eggs before I realized I put too much value in them and had to crack them open to remove some things and place them somewhere else. Would kids even care about prize distribution consistency in an Easter Egg Hunt?

1.) Large eggs have better prizes in them, and should henceforth be hidden far better than their small counterparts.
2.) Large eggs contain either money or a toy, and candy, but not all 3 at the same time.
3.) Eggs should be placed in safe areas and not the neighbor's cactus collection, rose bushes, or the "spider hole."
4.) Once the hunt is over, inspect the grounds to get leftover eggs for "processing" purposes. (cuz the sweetest types of prizes are the ones that are unclaimed)
5.) Make sure the kids/egg ratio matches up with the eggs everyone else brings. Ain't nothin' sadder than a kid with no eggs after an Easter Egg Hunt... except an Easter Egg Hunt with nobody in it. This should've been Rule #1.

It's not a plug for He Qi, it's just that the best place to view a lot of this person's artwork was the shop. :P What caught my attention was that the cubist style reminded me alot of Windwaker's intro sequence and that the primary, hyper saturated color choices that were used gives this irisdescent, neon appearance I haven't seen anywhere else. It's these color and design choices I'm hopin' to steal someday, so please don't tell anyone, it's a secret to everybody. :o

By figuring out what it is you like about something, the easier it is to attempt coordinating it into your style.

Thank you for your kind words!  :)
I do spend a lot of time on the streets when I'm on my trips.
But I only rarely wait more than a minute or two for a photo.
Instead I walk a lot and catch moments on the fly when I see them.

I do try to look out for the colours in a scene. Especially in the hutongs of Beijing,
the walls that end up in many backgrounds are grey, so the subject's colours stand out well.

With all the walking, I bet you've developed a well of stamina to run a 5k marathon, nik. XD
It's always great to hear about the thought process behind photos.

np! What struck me was the impression I had when I first saw your work, which was "macho, yet graceful."

The elongated form of the characters (12 heads tall on average) lead to some very fun poses, especially with the way some of the costumes break up the human form and contribute to the silhouette, and they have this facial intensity of a Go Nagai protagonist, which is more prominent in portraits. I think it's in the eyelashes.

Haven't heard that kind impression of my art for a while, thanks! I have been in the sculpting departments in art schools, so that is the one reason why shapes and form are important to me.  I do like Go Nagai, like his skills of drawing dynamic stuff, style and unfiltered ideas (well not all ideas).
Do you like him?

I do. The broader line strokes he uses from the action scenes have this rougher appearance which adds to the intensity of the scene and the framing he uses for actions shots and how figures are depicted in it remind me of Jack Kirby's work.

np! It's enjoyable to flip through your gallery, Legrand! There was a deep found appreciation getting to see photos of completed models from various angles, especially with the custom dioramas that were created. For taking pictures, have you ever thought about setting up a lightbox for your models?

Ah, I can see it. Trying to get light to shine the way you want it to on a model and cast a shadow before taking a pic is hard enough without having to fiddle with a lightbox, especially with models of such a large scale.
